7 ways to Keep Your Pet Cool and Comfortable This Summer

With the summer months upon us, it’s important to keep your pet comfortable when temperatures start to rise. Pets can suffer from heat stroke just like humans, so it’s important to be aware of the signs and take steps to prevent it. Here are 7 ways you can keep your pet cool this summer!

1. Make sure they have access to shade at all times – Whether you’re playing in the backyard or taking a walk around the block, make sure that your pet always has access to some type of shade. If you don’t have trees in your yard, consider setting up an umbrella or a tent for them to lounge under.

2. Give them plenty of water – Always have fresh water available for your pet during hot days and make sure that their water bowl is not too deep as they could accidentally fall into it while trying to lap it up!

3. Keep walks short – On especially hot days limit your walking time with your pet so they don’t get too exhausted from the heat. Be aware of any signs of fatigue such as panting and lethargic behavior and take breaks if necessary.

4. Consider getting them a cooling mat – Cooling mats are great for keeping pets comfy during hot weather as they can help regulate their body temperature without having to be plugged in or refrigerated.

5. Take them swimming – Swimming is one of the best ways for animals to cool down on hot days, just make sure you supervise them at all times!

6. Don’t forget about air conditioning – When possible make sure that your pet has access to air conditioning during hot days and nights as it will help regulate their body temperature much better than fans or open windows alone can do.

7. Look out for signs of heat exhaustion – Be aware of any changes in behavior that may indicate that your pet is getting too hot such as excessive panting, drooling, vomiting, lethargy or loss of appetite - if you notice any of these signs contact your veterinarian immediately!

Keeping your pet cool this summer doesn't have to be hard - with these 7 simple tips you can ensure that they stay safe and comfortable no matter how hot it gets outside! From providing plenty of water and shade to giving them access to air conditioning - there are lots of things you can do this summer season to keep Fido cool and happy until fall arrives!
